1. Overview

Brisbane Professional Institute (BPI) is committed to protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and partners. This policy outlines our obligations under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), we are also governed by the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011, which mandates specific data reporting requirements.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information necessary for enrollment, training delivery, and government reporting. This includes:

  • Personal Details: Full name, date of birth, gender, and contact information.
  • Sensitive Information: Racial or ethnic origin, disability status, and health requirements (collected solely to provide student support and meet government AVETMISS reporting).
  • Academic Records: Previous qualifications, citizenship status, and training progress.

3. Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Under the Student Identifiers Act 2014, BPI cannot issue a nationally recognised qualification or statement of attainment unless you have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

If you authorise BPI to apply for a USI on your behalf, we will disclose your personal information to the Student Identifiers Registrar. Your USI data is protected by the same Australian Privacy Principles outlined in this policy.

4. Mandatory Disclosures

We are required by law to disclose your personal information to the National VET Data Collection managed by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER). This data is used for:

  • Populating your authenticated VET transcripts.
  • Administration of Vocational Education and Training (VET).
  • Research, statistics, and Linkage of data for educational policy.

We may also disclose data to the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and relevant Queensland state training authorities.

5. Security & Retention

BPI employs industry-standard security measures, including encrypted Student Management Systems (SMS) and restricted physical access to student files. In accordance with RTO standards, we retain your records for a minimum of 30 years to ensure you can request copies of your qualifications in the future.

6. Your Rights & Complaints

You have the right to access the personal information BPI holds about you and request corrections if the data is inaccurate.
